Felix The Cat Wiki

Felix Shatters the Sheik is a 1926 Felix the Cat short produced by Pat Sullivan.

Plot[]

Felix follows in the footsteps of an unsuccessful umbrella peddler, only to be accused of jinxing his business. The peddler throws rocks at the cat, but misses. But he hits the man on a poster advertising a Vichy siphon. The angry character on the poster douses the peddler and another man with Vichy water so violently that many think a rainstorm has begun. The other man buys an umbrella, convincing the umbrella peddler that Felix is really a mascot.

And so the two face the Sahara Desert as a likely sales ground. Instead of finding it a lucrative terrain for their sales efforts, the duo learn that "it's not going to rain anymore!"

So Felix comes up with a brilliant scheme to promote sales. He sends up balloons loaded with birdseed and onions. Birds are attracted to the seeds, and the onions make them cry profusely. The result of their tears is a synthetic rain that leads the Arab hordes to buy umbrellas in droves — as Felix and his friend make a lucrative business selling their stock of umbrellas.
